A few words about the thematic field
The economic and business environment consists of a set of external and internal factors of the enterprise that define its operation and its effectiveness. Over the last few decades, the economic and business environment has been rendered extremely volatile and of course, it has greatly worsened during the years of the economic crisis. While these developments take place, radical changes are also identified in the way the economic environment is organized and expanded. The opening of markets has also led to an increase in international transactions and movement of goods, people and capital, maximizing competition.
Furthermore, the deep economic crisis that has initially hit USA, then Europe and more than any other country, Greece, has changed the dominant growth model, restructuring the economic and institutional environment that the enterprises operate in. The decline in consumption demand, as a consequence of the sharp decline in income and the increase in taxation, as a result of the tight fiscal policy increase the complexity of the economic environment on a country level, underlining the need for its monitoring.
ΙΜΕ GSEVEE recognizes the critical importance of monitoring the economic environment developments at national and international level, alongside the market trends for any given enterprise, so that it can develop and adopt an appropriate strategy for its effective and sustainable operation.
At the same time, given that the aforementioned procedure is almost impossible for micro and small enterprises, IME GSEVEE deems imperative the continuous monitoring of the economic environment and the open provision of information to small and medium enterprises.
Through its activities, IME GSEVEE constantly strives to contribute to the gathering, processing and dissemination of documented and specialized information. Finally, through the monitoring of the economic environment, IME GSEVEE supports GSEVEE in the formulation of valid scientific positions and policy proposals in the fields of its direct intervention.
What we do
ΙΜΕ GSEVEE promotes its goals in this specific field through the planning and implementation of relevant research and studies for the collection and processing of reliable data, the implementation of national and European projects, as well as the development of documented policy proposals and working papers with reference to key findings resulting from the monitoring actions.
Already since 2009, it has been conducting regular surveys, such as the nationwide "Semiannual survey of the economic climate for small and medium enterprises" and the annual "household income/expenditure" survey, both unique in their credibility and predictive capacity. Simultaneously, it elaborates a series of other studies on specialized issues concerning small and medium enterprises. The development and operation of a specialized mechanism for the study and analysis of the economic environment of small and medium enterprises is currently high on the agenda of IME GSEVEE.
